The prolific badminton player continued her impressive streak at the Rio Olympics on Thursday, as she beat Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in straight sets in a passionately fought encounter. The physically dominating PV Sindhu played one of the best matches of her career and one could see that the match could only go in her direction with the kind of energy and passion she exhibited during the entirety of the semi final.
Credit to Okuhara as well, who put up a brilliant fight, but only to end up losing the all-important first game by 21-19. She continued matching Sindhu step by step in the second game as well, till the time the scoreboard read 10-10. What happened in the next 5 odd minutes ensured that for arguably the first time ever, an entire nation will be watching the final intently later today, with the same dedication and love they portray towards their beloved sport of cricket. The ace shuttler went on an absolute blitzkrieg as she smashed Okuhara across the court and with an obvious adrenaline high, she managed to win 11 consecutive points (that’s right, ELEVEN!) to write her name in India’s history books, with ink no less.
With her heroics yesterday, Pusarla Venkata Sindhu has surely managed to win a billion hearts as she guaranteed India a silver medal, with a shot at the top prize at the Olympics. One billion people. Two billion eyeballs. One PV Sindhu. We’ll be back soon to cover the events of the match with our opinions on the same. Be sure to comment below with your own thoughts about Sindhu. #SindhuForGold
