Indian football fans have something exciting to look forward to in 2017. There are rumours of football legends David Beckham and Ricardo Kaka partaking in Premier Futsal’s second season, to be held between January and March next year.
Dinesh Raj, MD and co-founder of Premier Futsal, further fuelled the speculation by saying, “The response has been positive. Beckham and Kaka are keen to play futsal in India. They are not coming just because of the money. It’s our vision they are interested in. We can’t just bring them with money.”
If the authorities manage to convince Beckham then he would follow in the footsteps of his former Manchester United teammates Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, who plied their trade with Bengaluru and Mumbai respectively in the inaugural edition. The first season also witnessed other stars such as Ronaldinho, Falcao, Michel Salgado and Hernan Crespo.
CEO and Co-Founder Abhinandan Balasubramanian pointed out that the marquee players from last season will be retained as they have a 3-5 years’ contract. Six international players will feature in each team, with the final possibly at an international destination.
Premier Futsal’s organizers have made their intentions clear to host the league bi-annually from next year. The number of teams will also be increaased by two, taking the total to eight franchises, where matches will be spread across four cities — Bangalore, Mumbai, Cochin and Kolkata.
