After a disappointing time at the Summer Olympics in Rio, Sania Mirza was counting on the US Open to revive her fortune at the tennis courts. However, Sania Mirza’s campaign in the mixed doubles came to an abrupt end as she and her Croatian partner Ivan Dodig lost their second round match in straight sets 3-6, 4-6 to the relatively unknown pairing of Barbora Krejcikova of Czech Republic and Marin Draganja of Croatia in straight sets 3-6 4-6.

Mirza and Dodig were broken twice in the first four games as their opponents took a healthy lead of 4-0, thus making it almost impossible to make a comeback. They eventually lost the first set 3-6.

The second set made for a better viewing w.r.t. how closely contested the tie was. Both pairs broke their opponents’ serves, but again the Croat-Czech pair came out of top to win the set 4-6 and progress to round 3.

The match lasted just over an hour at 65 minutes, as the Indo-Croat pair crumbled to a rather underwhelming defeat in the end.
